Transparency. I will insure transparency in the conduct of the people’s business, through more input at town council meetings, earlier posting of meeting agendas, information on the town website, and more.
Economic Diversity. I will encourage the creation of diversified businesses in Virgin. It is economically risky to put all of our economic eggs in the tourism basket. We need diversified businesses to see us through times of downturn in tourism. We have all suffered through that more than once in the past decade.
Cooperation and Opportunity. I will make Virgin an active partner in the grand plans for the larger Zion Canyon Community and Washington County. In going it alone we are in danger of missing opportunities that could benefit our community. Our current administration is short-signed in this regard and I will change that.
Representative Public Bodies. I will see to it that our public decision-making bodies represent our community as a whole. Neither the present town council nor the planning commission is representative of our community. There is no diversity of opinion and almost 99% of their decisions are unanimous. This is not a sign of a health democracy.
Less Politicized Town Administration. I will work for the many, not the few. The town residents and their needs are equally important as those of businesses. Residents should not fear that their personal opinions and beliefs will affect decisions made by the Town Council and Planning Commission.
